The 62nd Biennial Convention of Delta Gamma Fraternity, Anchored Under the Palms,
was held July 21-25, 2006 at the Renaissance Orlando Resort at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida.
Convention is a time to come together to celebrate our common Delta Gamma bonds.
Convention is a time to reaffirm our ideals through rituals; share in conducting the
business of our Fraternity in the General Sessions; network with other officers to
share ideas and learn best practices; and listen to speakers who provide information
and motivation to strengthen our personal development and DG education. Underlying all
this enrichement at Convention is the basic opportunity to reunite with old friends and
create new bonds of friendship in true Delta Gamma style.
Two years of loving work is spent to await the arrival of about 900 Delta Gamma sisters.
Local Florida volunteers and event hostesses helped to make the luncheons and
banquets fun and exciting.
Most delegates to Convention arrived on Wednesday, June 21. Thursday, June 22 was the first
of four General Sessions followed by
General Session 2 on Friday and
General Session 3 & 4 on Saturday. All
days were packed with educational programs having inspirational speakers,
election forums, voting, Region group picture taking and luncheons and evening banquets.
The Foundation Banquet, held on Thursday, Celebrating the Power to Do Good, was
a tribute to our Foundation Trustees and all the alumnae who support our Foundation.
Foundation Awards were presented. A new
Delta Gamma Foundation program partnering with the Girl Scouts was announced.
Do a good turn daily is the Girl Scouts motto and Do Good is the DG motto. How
do they relate? Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Girls can earn a
Delta Gamma Foundation patch by doing one activity from seven sections, including: learning
about visual impairments; screening for visual impairments; coping with visual impairments;
adaptive technology; careers; similarities with people with visual impairments; and service.
The Awards Banquet was held on Saturday themed Night of Delta Gamma Stars.
This Convention was the first to present a Delta Gamma Lectureship in Values & Ethics program.
Sponsored by several
DG collegiate chapters, the Lectureship's guest speaker Joan Brock was
an inspiration to us all.
Laced with humor,
Joan's presentation inspires
you to see the beautiful, funny and remarkable
adventures that happen in our lives everyday.
Joan's presentation will give you the tools to
experience life through all of your senses.
At the age of 32, Joan Brock suddenly lost her
sight from a rare eye disease, in a three week period...WHILE working
at a school for blind
children. Five years later she tragically lost
her husband to cancer and was left to raise her
young daughter as a blind, single parent.
In her presentations, attendees will see parallels
to their own challenges. Joan's topics explore the
vision of success, which must be shared by all
the members of an effective and enduring organization. Her sparkling delivery and original
style endear her to audiences who are charmed
into a new way of looking at themselves and into
breathing new life into the demands of a
changing world climate.
Joan is the author of More Than Meets the Eye,
which has been translated into several languages
and is also a Reader's Digest Condensed Book.
She won the hearts of the insurance industry's
"Million Dollar Round Table" and the NBC Today
Show audiences with her story of courage,
perseverance and acceptance.
In 2003, Joan's amazing life story was portrayed
in a Lifetime Television Network movie, titled
More Than Meets the Eye: The Joan Brock Story
